The Juneau Reentry Coalition invites the public to its Saturday, October 12, 2024, Adopt-A-Highway litter pickup event. The event begins at 10 a.m. at the JREC Adopt-A-Highway sign at 4 mile North Douglas Highway.

JREC’s Adopt-A-Highway area covers the mile 4 highway marker to mile 5. Picking up litter on both sides of the highway will take an hour to an hour and a half. The ditches alongside the road can be water-filled, so wear work clothes and water-resistant footwear. Rain gear can be a good idea if it is raining.

Light refreshments will be available to participants. JREC will supply trash bags and nitrile gloves.

This is a family-friendly event. However, children eight or younger should not attend due to the dangerous side-of-highway environment and active vehicles on the roadway. Parents and guardians are responsible for their child’s safety.
